McGill Family Practice Policies

Below are a few of the McGill Family Practice policies. Please ask for clarification on any question you may have prior to your scheduled appointment.

Financials

Co-pays, deductibles, co-insurance, and outstanding balances on accounts are expected at the time of service.

Your insurance is a contract between you and your insurance company. Co-payments are required by your insurance company and they must be paid at each visit. We will gladly file your insurance claim for you as long as you bring your insurance card and proper information with you to your appointment. Please have your current insurance information with you at each visit and please allow time prior to your visit to allow us to update your records, because policies and coverage can change since your last visit.

All self pay patients, worker compensation claims, and motor vehicle accidents must pay for their visits in full on the day of service. We will provide you with receipts so you can file for reimbursement.

Any bill not paid by your insurance in 60 days will be your responsibility.

All checks written on insufficient funds or closed accounts will be charged a $50.00 fee plus bank charges and the patient will never be allowed to write another check.

We reserve the right to turn any account with a delinquent balance over to collections – though we make every effort possible to work with our patients.

Cash, credit cards, or checks are gladly accepted.

Appointments

We make every effort possible to accommodate the needs of our patients with a variety of appointment times. However, we are unable to offer walk-in appointments.  If you need to see a provider today, please call ahead so we can see where best to fit you into the schedule.

We know that your time is valuable and we strive to be as punctual as possible to see you at your appointed time. To ensure that there is little to no wait time, please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time to complete any paperwork that may be required and to allow time for the check-in process.

Should you need to change your appointment or if you cannot keep your appointment please call our office as soon as possible. If you make an appointment and do not show up for it without a 24 hour cancelation notice, you will be charged a $25  “no show” fee.  Repeat offenses will result in your dismissal from our practice.

In order to help with our efforts to stay on time, we request that you keep your questions limited to ONLY what you scheduled your appointment for.  Please do not bring lists of concerns, or try to have us work in your family members while you are at your appointment.  We understand illnesses can change from the time an appointment is made,  and that other members of the family get sick as well.  If that happens, please call ahead and we will check to see if we can adjust your appointment to assure we have the correct time allotted for your questions, or room to work in your family.  Otherwise, you will be asked to keep your appointment limited to what it was originally scheduled for.

In general, we recommend all patients take advantage of their Annual Physical Benefit.  It is currently covered at 100% by most insurance plans.  Check with your plan for details.  Most plans only cover 1 physical every 365 days, so if you see a GYN for a Pap Smear that is usually counted as your Physical.  Unless you have abnormalities that require a GYN to do your pap, consider having it done by one of our staff with your detailed Annual Physical.  In general, we recommend all patients with chronic health problems to be seen every 3 months in order to stay on top of these illnesses and help prevent complications.  Depending on the circumstances, some patients will be required to be seen monthly because of their medications.  Ask your provider about a good schedule for your needs.

Refills

We make every attempt to give you a 90 day supply with a year worth of refills on your chronic medications at your Annual Physical.  When you reach your last refill, you know it is time to schedule your Annual Exam.  Some medications have restrictions that require them to be written every month, or every 6 months.  You will need an appointment to get those refilled.

If you find yourself in need of refills, please have your Pharmacy contact us.

We will NOT give refills without an appointment for any controlled substance.

No refills are given after office hours or on weekends, so please plan ahead.

We NEVER prescribe narcotics or other controlled medications over the phone.
